In terms of red flags, Wood advises against including more than five bullet points for any given role on a resume, reported CNBC Make It. Listing too many bullets suggests that a candidate cannot prioritize or succinctly summarize their responsibilities. It may also indicate poor communication skills and raise concerns about how the individual would interact with clients, potentially wasting their time by over-explaining.

Wood further emphasizes the importance of white space on resumes. Cramming too much information without enough white space can hinder readability and call into question the candidate’s judgment. Proper spacing helps create a visual hierarchy, making the resume easier to digest and more appealing to hiring managers. She advises job seekers to maintain proper margins at the top, bottom, and sides of their resumes, as well as ensure there is adequate spacing between sections.
The third thing she warns against is including too many links. While links can be useful for showcasing achievements, overloading a resume with them can make it difficult to read and suggest a lack of discernment. Wood believes that too many links can signal poor prioritization, detracting from the overall effectiveness of the resume.
Your boss just gave you a project that overwhelmed you.
Here’s how to minimize stress and get started right away:
✅ Simply put it on paper. Share it with your boss within 24 hours.

She also stated two tips that will make for an impressive resume. She prefers concise bullet points under job titles, ideally not exceeding one line. Keeping bullets short demonstrates intentionality, discernment, and the ability to prioritize information. Overall, this approach can make a candidate appear more polished and professional, giving them a “superstar” impression.
Wood appreciates seeing personality on a resume, which can be showcased in creative ways. She believes that personal touches, like hobbies or unique interests, make candidates stand out in a crowded field of similarly qualified applicants.
